Dear Terence
First, Let me thank you for sharing your experiences and natural tips.
I just wanted to share my experiences as an IBS sufferer who also has endometriosis. I was browsing through the Web, and found out that one of the causes of endometriosis is a depleted immune system.
I have come a long way since I was first diagnosed with the problem. Actually like many other women, I was unaware that I had this problem and prior to being diagnosed, did not even know that such a thing existed. I have religiously, over the years, been diligently building up and strengthening my immune system.
Let me share with you how I strive to keep my immune system at an optimal level.
• I take plenty of vegetables and fruits on a daily basis – and I mean plenty, definitely more than the five recommended servings! If I find by dinner time that I haven’t met my vege and fruits quota, I make a giant bowl of salad, and have it as my main course. I also make fruit juices – basically with any fruits I can get my hands on. But I find that carrots really work for me, it’s helped somewhat to reduce my heavy flow.
• Exercise – can’t run away from it. I used to be very active, jogging, swimming and trekking in my younger days. I’ve grown a bit lazy about the jogging part! I walk and swim, and do yoga. Trekking takes place once a month perhaps. But I am really trying to make an effort to get back to jogging as I read somewhere that it really helps. My great hubby is trying to motivate me – so that, I believe is going to get me back on my jogging feet.
• If I find that I am coming down with the sniffles or a mild fever, I drink juices and eat lots of fruits and veges – I rarely take medication as that is what caused the downfall of my immune system. Ten years ago, I came down with very bad tonsillitis and was prescribed very strong antibiotics. The antibiotics did nothing for my tonsilitis, but my doctor insisted that I continue with the same medication. I was in agony and was stuck taking this for 3 whole weeks, three times a day. Finally another doctor discovered that the medication was the wrong one for me, but by that time my whole immune system ad effectively been destroyed by the antibiotics. It took my body a good seven years to recover from that trauma. And as a result of that I came down with endometriosis.
• As you have recommended in your article , The Magic of Cumin - it is really God-send. Cumin tea – I am strong believer in this miracle liquid. I take this after every meal, and find it very effective to dispel and built-up gas. It reduces bloating and stomach discomfort.
• I also take yoghurt on a daily basis – thankfully I am not lactose tolerant. I take yoghurt sometimes mixed with fruit juices, on its own, normally after meals. I find that it aids in digestion. You have recommended this actively in your blog and articles.
Right now I manage the endometriosis and the IBS quite well, although there are flare-ups. I really believe you are what you eat, and have reduced drastically my intake of meats. I believe if you can get your hands on organic food, it would be even better. “Clean food, free of preservatives, and organic if possible should be the ideal food.
Thanks for all your tips – it is really been very useful.
