My Trip to UK & IBS

Recently, I made a holiday trip to London, UK for 3 weeks. I was a little bit worried that my IBS would work up during this trip that I packed my arsenal of remedies with me from cumin powder to pre-pack dried porridge packs. Of course, I included my collection of supplements and medications like probiotics tablets, Dulculax and Duspatalin. I was looking more like a person with a mobile clinic than one that was going on holiday.

Let me tell you about London, UK. I went with apprehension because I was worried that my IBS would prevent me from enjoying the place. I was very concern about the food.

Well, in the whole of 3 weeks, somehow, the healthy living and London’s atmosphere, had prevented the IBS from acting up. I had a wonderful time in London. I attributed to the healthy organic food which can be found in every place and long walks in getting to places, thus providing the necessary exercise. The weather was fantastic (average about 12C) and the wonderfully manicured parks and greens made my trip so wonderful, peaceful and more importantly stress free.

I didn’t even have to drink so much cumin tea and I didn’t even have to do my yoga exercises (I was being bad). I don’t remember even having to burp that much either. Bowel movements were on-time and flows were excellent. This, I attribute to the organic greens that I kept taking since they were so delicious.

This trip has taught me that I am on the right strategy.
1. Stress management
2. Exercise – plenty of it especially massaging the stomach area.
3. Food – healthy food
a. Plenty of fresh greens, preferably uncooked.
b. Bread
c. More fish than meats
d. Plenty fruits, which provides the necessary fiber.

I am back home now, and have reverted back to my old habits and old diets. Guess what, the burps came back and just yesterday I had some problems with bowel movements. I know definitely I should alter my lifestyle to match those I had when I was in London.

Stress has increase, definitely because of my job but I beginning to take stress management techniques I learnt in Stress Management more seriously now. I don’t get as much exercise as well. I was on holiday in London, so I don’t thinking I can match the amount of exercise as I was in London. I definitely can do something to match the diet, I had in London.

With this new found confirmation, I hope to free myself from IBS in the long term.
Oh, one more thing I think I should do is to detox more often - give the system a rest from all the toxin foods I am too used too - fast food, etc. I learnt quite a few techniques from this Detox book, if you like to check it out.

Let me know if anyone has similar experience in UK. Loved the place. Wish I was staying in London then maybe I would not have IBS. :)
