Avoid Beans and Cabbage

Hi

For IBS sufferers, Beans and Cabbage are "Must" things to avoid. The reason is they produce gas. Some people react terribly to them. It is a trail and error but I have had a lot of people tell me about the problems they have with beans especially.

Althought beans are a good source of fibers but it can create gas which can cause a lot of discomfort.

Actually, it is not fair to blame the beans (or cabbage) because it is not beans which create the gas. It is the bacteria inside the instentines which reacts with the nutritional sugars in the beans, which creates the gas. The gas is then trapped in the gut which can cause real discomfort.

Having said that, some IBS sufferers do not have any reaction to beans. So you will have to try to find out what foods are suitable. Remember developing a food cheat sheet will help you understand what you can enjoy.

So dont worry too much about food. Just try them a bit and see. Of course, don't do this on bad days.

To you IBS health.
